Public hits delay in city airport ramp

Boholanos strongly criticized anew the delay in the implementation of the much needed emergency ramp at the Tagbilaran City Airport where arrivals are delayed due to the existing “one-airline” policy.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Phils (CAAP) was earlier tasked to fast track the project in order to save the riding public from further inconvenience as flights are even suspended whenever a plane gets stalled at the tarmac.

The Chronicle conducted a check on why until these days nothing has been heard of either a bidding nor any update of the “urgent” project.

Authorities at the Holy Name University (HNU) which owns the lot intended to be used as emergency ramp are awaiting for the government’s reaction on their counter proposal as to the lot rental. Earlier, HNU priced the rental cost at P30/square meter of which CAAP counter proposed P10 per square meter. The lot which belongs to the Society of the Divine Word (SVD)  sent its counter proposal pegging the lot rental at P20 per square meter.

Since after the P20/square meter compromised lot rental was sent to CAAP, nothing has been heard of, HNU authorities told the Chronicle last Wednesday.

Earlier, Rep. Rene Relampaos, chair of the House committee on tourism expressed optimism that the project as promised by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) will be completed by December this year. But, because of this bureaucratic red tape delay, the emergency ramp can never be completed this year.

When contacted for comments, the solon said DOTC authorities assured him that once the rental can be agreed, they can commence the work within two months.

The tourism industry which is affected with these flight delays and cancellations is urging Gov. Edgar Chatto and Rep. Rene Relampagos to pressure DOTC and CAAP to fast track the project before more “bad experiences” among tourists can smear the image of Bohol as a destination.

CAAP is waiting for an accident before they move their ass..
Indecisiveness made the delay. And we are dreaming of New airport
in Panglao who broke grounds several times. We will just hope that Binay or whoever will be the next President will make good the promise to get the Airport construction started.
