Manny-Floyd Jr bout likely to push through

The much-awaited megabuck fight between Manny Pacquiao and undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will push through this year according to Jinkee Pacquiao, the Filipino boxing icon’s wife.

Pacquiao, in an interview, said her husband personally confirmed the news to her adding the fight may be held in either May or June this year.

Mayweather, who challenged Pacquiao on Twitter, however, is reportedly not amenable to the proposed 50-50 purse split.

The eight-division world champion, also the incumbent congressman of Sarangani province’s lone district in the House of Representatives, neither confirmed nor denied that he has chosen Mayweather to be his next opponent.

Paquiao, in a separate interview during the awards ceremony of People Asia Magazine’s People of the Year, only said that his fans would be happy on his choice.

“I’m also excited. We’re going to train and prepare hard for his fight since everyone expects me to win. I just put my trust in the Lord, nothing is imposibble with God.”

Pacquiao was the recepient of People Asia Magazine’s Person of the Decade. “Receiving this award is such an incredible honor. I feel humbled but at the same time very proud,” Pacquiao said in his acceptance speech.

“I’ve went through a lot in my life before I reach where I am now. I hope others would look to me as an inspiration to never give up and always hope for the best.”

Miguel Cotto, Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Juan Manuel Marquez are among the fighters that were included on the short list of opponents for the ‘Pacman.’
