The relentless drive against the drug trade claimed another life as syndicate members are now running against each other due to the business angle behind drug trafficking here.

The latest casualty who was a drug user-turned-pusher was later known by the police as the mastermind of the “bukas-kotse” gang operating in the city.

Police identified the drug personality as Fernando Berula Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Rizal Street in barangay Cogon. He was shot dead in broad daylight last Thursday afternoon across the building that used to be the Berama KTV Bar along Hilario Zamora St., an interior road in sitio Lanao, barangay Dao , this city.

Berula, a resident of Sacred Heart Village in barangay Cogon, died on the spot in the area about 100 meters from the City Integrated Bus Terminal.
The identifies of the two suspects are witheld by the police pending their arrests.

City Police Chief George Vale told the Chronicle that the incident was drug related considering that five sachets of shaby were recovered from the victim’s pocket.

Responding policemen found two empty shells of caliber .45 ammunitions at the crime scene.

According to witnesses, the victim was shot by motorcycle-riding men.
A caliber .38 revolver was also recovered tucked at the victim’s waist..
The victim’s wife admitted her husband had been involved in drugs.

Investigators also recovered a key and a USB flash drive from Berula’s pocket, which turned out to be a key to a room of a lodging house in the city.

Hinting that Berula had checked in the place, investigators proceeded to the lodging house where they found a gray HP i3 laptop inside the room that Berula had occupied in the lodging house.

Investigators found out that the laptop belonged to a certain Marcelo Dapar, a 43-year-old teacher of Bilar District School.

The teacher, who lives in Calinga-an, Sevilla, identified the laptop when presented to him by the police that it was the same laptop that the Department of Education had issued to him for official use.

It was the laptop that he reported tgwo days earlier as stolen from his car.
According to the caretaker of the lodging house, Berula was a regular client frequently seen with an unidentified lady companion.

Investigators also concluded that Berula’s killing was a handiwork of the drug ring hit squad. Police theorized that the victim was liquidated due to non-remittance of payment in their drug operations
