Spate of burglaries alarm folks in towns

Akyat-Bahay gang on the loose alarmed folks in towns after the spate of burglaries over the weekend, divesting households and an establishment of expensive appliances and cash amounting to a total of almost P70,000 in at least three locations.

In Corella at around 2 a.m. on August 4, a 39-year-old resident of Poblacion reported to the municipal police station that burglars must have forced entry into his house through the jalousie window after removing three glass slats.

The victim, Felix Lao-ay, reported to the police that the burglar had taken away his Sony flat TV and wallet containing P7,000.

The day before, at around 4 p.m., a resident of barangay Sta. Cruz, Calape, reported to the police that burglars had entered into her house at around 4 p.m. While she was in church with her daughter.

Upon returning home at around 6 p.m., she discovered that the door of her room was already open and saw her things scattered on the floor.

She also found out that her Nikon camera worth P45,000, Nokia cellphone and cash also amounting to P45,000 were already gone.

The victim believed that the burglars entered through the backdoor that was left open.

In Talibon, a resident of barangy San Jose identified as Richard Sumalinog reported to the police at around 8 a.m. on Monday that the company he works had been burglarized during the weekend.

The 26-year-old mechanic of Honda Motor World located at CPG St. in Poblacion reported that burglars carted away the cash left in the drawers of the personnel and a number of spare parts on display at the store.

Investigators believed the burglars entered the establishment either on Saturday or Sunday and had no lead on the identity of the suspects because there was no CCTV camera in the area.

The cash lost amounted to P16,000.

All the three incidents remained unsolved, like a number of similar incidents in the past.

The three successive incidents of burglary drew the attention of the Bohol Police Provincial Office as concern on the presence of Akyat Bahay gang in the province has become evident.(with reports from Ciel Remolador)
