Two FIBA refs to conduct accreditation seminar

Two respected  Filipino international referees who are members of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the new governing body for basketball in the country, will be here to conduct the three (3) day national accreditation and refreshers’ seminar on basketball officiating on February 3 – 5 at the Bohol Wisdom School gym .

National SBP administrators Liberato Valenzuela and Rafael Britannico, both veteran and experienced  international basketball federation (fiba) court arbiters will discuss on the latest amendments to the international rules on basketball for men and women as adopted by the international governing body for basketball.

The duo will likewise include in their discussions the proper 3 man and 2 man mechanics of the game, proper signalling, positioning, whistling, and most importantly the attitudes of the referees towards the players/coaches/and the crowd.

Furthermore, the participants will be exposed to a difficult theoretical examination and tough test on endurance. And if they will hurdle successfully the said examination they will qualify to be issued accreditation certificates and license (id’s) as accredited members of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) group of referees.

The said accreditation seminar now on its 3rd year, is aimed among others, at helping the local government units to afford a well trained basketball referees at a fair rates in the implementation of their youth and sports development programs.

If we may recall, officiating is the biggest obstacle towards the full implementation of the sports and youth development programs of the local government. Because basketball referees from anywhere charged their officiating services with stratospheric rates which worked to the financial disadvantage  on the part of the LGUs. What is ironical is that these referees have never undergone any official training and/or seminar on basketball officiating conducted by the national federation for basketball.

With this undertaking, the local chapter of the SBP  then is realizing its dreams of putting up a chapter in every municipality who will assist and help in the furtherance of of the sports development activities of the local government and even to the smallest political unit.

Consequently, this will help facilitate the organizers of sports related activities  in the municipalities in implementing their programs as they will already have a built in and well trained basketball referees.

The registration fee is pegged as follows: For neophytes Php2, 000 package deal which includes lunch, accreditation, ids, and uniforms. While for the old who can present their ids, they will only pay Php600.
