Tourism to go full blast again

Gov. Edgar M. Chatto is bent on going full blast for Bohol to become a major player in the tourism industry as he sat in a meeting with the Provincial Tourism Council on developments at the Tagbilaran City Airport.

Concerns on possible effects in the industry came up after Chatto was questioned during  Friday’s  Kita Ug Ang Gobernador on possible flight interruptions as the airport runway is set to be rehabilitated.

Chatto assured the council that while airport improvements are about to begin, flights need not be interrupted.

Aside from renovations being set first for the terminal, the governor guaranteed coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the contractor to facilitate implementation of the terminal renovation and runway rehabilitation.

He asked CAAP manager Ed Solis to immediately notify the Provincial Government on CAAP plans and needs related to airport improvements.

The council discussed tourism promotions and marketing consistent to advocating Republic Act 9446 declaring Bohol as an eco-cultural tourism zone, exploring possibilities of a Bol-anon twist on the country’s tourism slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

Policy regulations and product development efforts were also on top of the agenda as Bohol competes with other tourism destinations.

Chatto meanwhile explained peace and security strategies have been integrated into tourism development plans as apprehensions were raised following the recent incident in Panglao.

Tourism has always been a major component in the Chatto-Lim’s HEAT Development Agenda. (Leah/EDCom)
