NAIA caused planes’ delayed arrivals here

Only few people know that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is the usual reason why flights to the provinces are delayed.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Manager Edgar Solis said that the reason why flight arrivals from Manila are delayed is because of the heavy traffic of planes at the runway in Manila.

Last Friday, certain flights of the airlines here were once again delayed. It was found out by the Chronicle that the runway used as landing for incoming airlines to NAIA is also the runway for airlines’ take-off from Manila to different parts of the country. Hence, domestic flights have to pile up on the other area of the runway as landing planes are accommodated first.

A passenger interviewed by the Chronicle upon arrival here last Friday deplored the situation wherein the plane he was boarding has to wait for  more than 30  minutes from the original schedule of departure as the NAIA accommodated first three airlines which landed simultaneously.

A total of five planes waited for their turn to take off, including the Tagbilaran bound plane bringing mostly tourists.. Instead of leaving Manila airport at 1:30, the plane took off 2:10pm.

“Our ramp can only accommodate two airlines at the same time and so we have to let certain airline company to expedite their take-off in order to accommodate the other landing airline,” Solis explained.l
