LTO: ‘Ignore fixers’

In response to public clamor to eradicate illegal fixers at the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the agency’s Tagbilaran head reminds the public to transact directly with their office for vehicle registration and driver’s licenses.

LTO Tagbilaran chief Joel Maloloy-on said he has warned LTO personnel not assigned in frontline services who are caught assisting fixers, as they may be arrested, pursuant to Republic Act 9485 or the Anti-Red Tape and Anti-Fixing Law.

“We are likewise coordinating with local police to help us deal with known fixers operating in the premises of our LTO offices,” the LTO head said.

According to Maloloy-on, the Bohol LTO offices are among pilot areas in the campaign against red tape and fixing.

However, the cooperation among vehicle owners and licensees is crucial in order for the LTO to succeed in this campaign.

“I am urging our clients from the public to deal directly with LTO personnel who are assigned in frontline services,” Maloloy-on said.

Drivers and vehicle owners can avoid problems if they go through the normal procedures of the LTO, he added, instead of engaging fixers to handle their transactions.

Under the guidelines on frontline services of government agencies, complex transactions must be completed in 10 working days, while simple transactions should be completed in five days.

Government officials and personnel who violate the law will be fined P20,000 to P200,000 or imprisoned for up to six years.

Last week, fixing at the LTO hugged the headlines as two alleged fixers figured in a scuffle as they fought over a client’s motor vehicle registration.

Fixers at the Tagbilaran LTO office are seen practically barricading across the agency’s gates making it impossible for those transacting business with the office to avoid engaging their services.

As much as P5,000 are being exacted by fixers from vehicle registrants while P1,000 to P2,000 is the asking price for non-professional/professional driver’s license.

I am hoping nga ma publish ni sa news. Ako igsoon mi renew sa driver license ug many times iya gibasa ang test klaro nga makapasar sya. Pag abot sa LTO gitagbo sya sa captain ug gi approach sya sa guard and the person who check the test. MAny officials and fixers inside that building. I want to report this kay daghan nabiktima aning mga fixers nga intaon officials raman ang maka kwarta. imagine mobayad ka ug 2,500pesos sa test para ka makapasar ug wala pay labot ang drug test ug uban pang mga charges nila. While kon magtuon lang ka ug 100+ pesos ug 50pesos and drug test. Peru dili you have to talked to the capitan and sa guard ug sa person who check the test kay kon wala kay enough money mobayad sa CAPTAIN dili jud ka kapasar. I have evidence. I want a complete checked up sa mga mikuha ug driver license ug sa nag renew sa driver license. Kay this is a BIG SCAM inside our government and it is big BS.
