Fire hits BISU Bilar last night

BILAR. The huge complex of the Bohol Island State University (BISU) was spared from having been leveled to the ground in a fire which hit one of its cottages past 6 o’clock  last night.

Riverside Barangay Captain Chanel Luzano, during an interview with dyRD’s “Tagbilaran-By-Nite” last nigth disclosed that the blaze started in the living room of the cottage occupied by Juanita Rejas, a university teacher, who currently is undertaking doctoral study.

Luzano said that Bilar fire station, with only two fire fighters, managed to control the conflagration in less than 20 minutes.

Luzano further added that the security guard on duty, who was the first to spot the fire, was able to immediately call the local fire station. Fire fighters arrived in the area while local residents assisted in putting off the blaze.

Fire investigators’ initial investigations revealed that faulty electrical wiring caused the blaze due to old wiring connections in the cottage.

Luzano added that chairs, books and notebooks were burned while the living room was only partially damaged with an estimated cost of P15,000 only as there were no appliances inside the house.(Anthony Aniscal)
